UPDATED: Campaign for Funding Capital Park Renovation to Host Public Walkthrough Event Today, April 24, 2023
TRENTON, April 24, 2023
What:
A collaboration of three New Jersey nonprofits—New Jersey Future, New Jersey Conservation Foundation, and the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters—have launched a public campaign calling for the renovation of Capital Park to be funded as the multi-year renovation of the State House reaches completion.
UPDATE: We expect Congressperson Bonnie Watson Coleman and State Senator Shirley Turner in attendance at the walkthrough to show their support and to offer remarks.
Now is the timely and critical moment to envision the next steps for greening downtown Trenton by creating an urban park that provides a healthy, active, and vibrant green space behind the Capitol building for the public, school groups, state workers, and Trenton community members to access and enjoy. The campaign is circulating a letter of support urging the governor and legislators to act now to realize the renovation and delivery of this green space to the public domain with deliberate speed. To date, over 790 individuals and organizations have signed this public letter of support.
The walkthrough today, on April 24 of the current construction site and future park will bring together representatives from each campaign partner. The walkthrough will be led by NJ Conservation Foundation’s Co-Executive Director Jay Watson, who will describe existing plans for the reimagining of Capital Park, and field questions from walkthrough attendees and members of the press. Currently, over 30 members of the public have registered, with more expected to attend.
