New Jersey Future Praises Gov. Murphy’s Budget Priorities
Proposed investments in transit critical to raising New Jersey’s competitiveness
TRENTON, March 13, 2018 — New Jersey Future released the following statement today concerning Gov. Murphy’s proposed budget priorities:
“New Jersey Future applauds Governor Murphy’s emphasis on New Jersey’s value proposition and his focus on making New Jersey a good value for the money,” said New Jersey Future Executive Director Peter Kasabach.
“We are particularly heartened that the governor considers NJ Transit a top priority,” he continued. “Investing in our transit system, and in other infrastructure, will create the strong foundation we need for long-term economic growth and global competitiveness in the 21st century. The fact that the governor’s proposed increased investment in NJ Transit does not raise consumer fares is a good sign that New Jersey is moving in a new and better direction.
“We are also encouraged to see Governor Murphy embrace the idea of inter-municipal cooperation by proposing the establishment of a ‘shared services czar’ position. Strategic partnerships across municipalities can serve to help keep public costs down and investments aligned.”
