Matrix Development Group and Wachovia Bank, N.A. win the 2006 Leadership Award for their ongoing commitment to redevelopment and the rebuilding of New Jersey’s older communities, and their partnership in locating Wachovia’s regional headquarters in New Jersey’s capital, in collaboration with the City of Trenton and the Economic Development Corporation of Trenton.

• Community-University Partnership

  A planned annex to New Jersey City University’s (NJCU) main campus, the 21-acre NJCU West Campus will be much more than a typical university campus – it will also be a place for city residents to work, shop, and live.

• Creative Affordable Housing

  Delanco Renaissance, decided to channel the affordable housing money generated by the age-restricted development into small scale infill projects that would not only provide the necessary affordable housing but also remove blighted and abandoned buildings in downtown Delanco.

• Historic Building Reuse


  The Waxwood project, which rehabilitated a building of significant cultural value and addresses a dire need for unique, mixed-income housing in Princeton Borough, is an example of the kind of project whose impact is disproportionate to its size.

• Infill Neighborhood Design

  Wesmont Station development project that is transforming the last remaining developable brownfield site in Bergen County into a model of transit-friendly development.

• Main Street Revitalization

  Broadway Center, is part of the City of Long Branch’s Redevelopment Master Plan, the goal of which is, in part, to revitalize the city’s main street which had been historically the arts, entertainment, and commercial strip of the city.

• Participatory Neighborhood Planning

  The Parkside Neighborhood Strategic Plan represents a finely detailed revitalization plan for the neighborhood and is the result of an exemplary collaboration between the planning consultant, a neighborhood group, and the neighborhood’s residents.
