Planning Groups call for a Full Slate of Committed Nominees to the Highlands Council
December 17th, 2010 by Chris Sturm
New Jersey’s leading planning organizations–New Jersey Future, PlanSmartNJ, the Regional Plan Association and the American Planning Association/NJ Chapter–sent Governor Christie a letter this week calling for a full slate of nominees to the Highlands Council that meets the intent, spirit, and legal requirements of the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act. The Highlands Act ensures careful planning for where and how we grow and preserve, so critical water supplies serving more than half of all New Jerseyans are protected. The partial slate nominated by the Governor last month includes people that not only lack the qualifications to ensure effective implementation of the Act, but are actively opposed to its success. A similar letter was sent to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who have yet to act on the Governor’s nominees.
